What are you? Some kind of weird NASA geek? Are you building a Lunar Rover? Motorcycles need grease? Want to work on my vintage bikes for free? Just asking.

I don't think that the Maico would let a CZ or Husky in the shop!

Good luck with the build. I had an 82 for about 5 years. Most powerful bike I have ever owned, but the brakes were horrible. If you need someone to race that thing in a vintage race when you get it done, I would be glad to help out

I'm running the 82 4 speed motor in this bike, with all the power that the 480 makes I think the 82 4 speed is easier to ride than the 83 5 speed motor.

I never rode a 5 speed version, but the 4 speed worked well when I used it. I did a bunch of goat trails up in the mountains and 1st is a little on the high side, but the power will get you out of most bad situations if you are riding aggresively. It also ran out of steam on top a bit, but had a pretty decent top speed for a four speed. My current bike started life as a four speed, it was pretty much worthless as a desert bike as a four speed, I think it topped out around 70. It is now a six speed and will make your eyes water on top... One thing I remember was my chain came off and ate a hole in the left hand case, there was nothing there to protect it. You may want to add a gaurd of some sort. Most new bike come with a small block that will protect the case, you could probably retro something from a newer bike.

I had 2 4 speed CR 480's Bike would probably dragrace with a new 450
Bike was great with the exception of the rear shock. Pro Circuit made it work but the stock one was a Pogo Stick Have Fun, Make sure that when you whack it your pointed in the direction you wanna go !!

I will be using a new Ohlins shock with a Simon's Link on the rear with new rear bushings,. I sent the Simon's link to vintage Ohlins so they can test it on a 83 cr480 that they have with a Ohlins shock, then they will set the shock up to work with the new link. The front end has Race Tech Emulators and springs with the fork tubes hard anodized. So I think it will work as good as a 83 cr480 can work. DG

Here is a pic of a 97 CR 500 that I bought for $1600 It was a trashed Dez bike. I turned it into a Street Legal Supermoto

I’ve been told that the Antique class (1982 and older) has been dropped, and that a Bomber class has been added for 2010. The Bomber class is for bikes 15 years old and older. I have a 1980 Husqvarna 390 that I have raced in the Antique class in the past. I don’t know if my Husky can compete against a 1995 dirt bike, there is a huge difference in performance between the two, but I might try a couple of races anyway.
