Got the flyer in the mail today (and saw it sitting on the table at the Foxes race). So it ways "Whirlwind 100" which to me implies a 100 mile race, yet it is listed as a Hare Scrambles which denotes smaller loops, and then says no loop larger than 25 miles.

The map shows it in the exact location as the Cow Dung last year (and previous years), but there is a Cow Dung in August by the Sugarloafers.

Can anybody offer a little more insight? Is this like a renegade group of Sugarloafers and what's the real scoop on the course? Is it a 25 mile loop done 4 times?

Curious minds want to know.
Mike

I have really wanted to make this my first race of this year, but I like Mike would like to have a little more information on the race itself. Is this going to be almost identical to the previous Cow Dung races? Are there any Notch Peak club members or even some Sugarloafers (heard thats where the new club came form...but wasnt sure if the source was accurate?) that can answer these questions?

Mike, To answer your questions Notch Peak race is Brad Christensen putting it on with some racing freinds, I have been chairman on races for over 20 years and desided to put on my own race to give the riders more races.Im still a Sugerloafer and will still be helping with there races. Notch Peak Wirl Wind race has nothing to do with the Sugerloafers. The Wirl Wind 100 race is not going to have any water crossings its to late in the year and to much water, it will have sand woops with sage brush trails and the loop is aprox in miles and no it will most likely be under 100 miles, it was put on there for a name more then anything. It will be a fun race for all and the Bike Bikes will run down a hill that we call widowmaker. The race will be in the same format of the Cow Dung because I have chaired that race starting in 1989 and on, even when it was in Oak City and was the Delta City G.P. So don't worry its going to be a good one. We would like to thank the USRA for there support. Any Questions anyone can pm me. Thanks Brad Christensen

Thanks Brad. Based on what I knew, I was pretty sure this was a race you were chairing, but I wasn't sure and was just hoping for a little more info. I hope my original question wasn't misinterpreted as criticism. I was more just looking for clarification on a few things.

I loved the Cow Dung last year and I know you'll do a great job and appreciate somebody stepping up to put on a race. That's an amazing amount of work to take on, just for the love of the sport.

We'll be there!
Mike

Do you have any pictures of this "widowmaker" hill? My son is wanting to try his first race but that comment has him a little bit intimidated. lol

Any up date on loop length or number of loops or time for the big bikes? How about the mini loop length?

Re:Notch Peak - Race 1 year, 9 months ago #97173

I called the race chairman on the phone, and he told me the big bike loop was about 20 miles...and he expected the faster big bikes to do 4 loops.

he also said it would have an enduro-cross section....it will not include the motocross track.

Is my memory accurate?? if the course is primarily the top sections, not crossing river in the bottoms, was there really anything but sand? I guess the start has that big meadow/field area, but all I remember is the sand & sand whoops. Unless we're dropping into areas without crossing river?

The race will not be all sand, we are droping down several time out of the sand and hooking on sage brush trails, after the pits we will go on to the west side and its has alot of fun trails, the course is broke up so that the riders will have times to sit down and rest. Also the is a ATV race so you ATV racers you need to come out and race, because if there isn't and ATV support then we will not race the ATV's next year. This years start will be a good one, the riders start on top of the hill then drop down a ways into a sage brush valley and race for a half mile or more across the flat to the next hill where the smoke bomb will be at, a good one for the familys to watch.

Looks like we may get lucky and get some moisture friday! that would make for some great conditions down there! The wifey got her paddle all mounted up last night and to my surprise it held air over night

You're really running a paddle for the race?

This is going to be my second race and I'm looking forward to it. I have never been out to this area - any advice on how to get out to the pits coming from the North?

Assuming you were on US6 for either Firebirds or Sage Riders race, just continue toward Delta. As you enter town, you'll see a sign/pie plate at 750 North (as seen on on the flyer). Go Right (west) and follow the pie plates to turn back north, directly into the pits. Delta's nice because it's close to gas, food & whatever else you need.

Look at that flyer map and compare to Google Maps of Delta and you'll get a good aerial view of the area...and I assume we'll be racing in a lot of the area that is on that same side of the river.
