Firebirds always do a good job. I don't know their course, but it will be typical Cherry Creek...tight stuff in the trees, whoops, some quick open flats, and fun washes. I can't imagine it any harder or easier than any other Cherry Creek race.

The Buzzards race last fall was hard because of the distance, the heat, and dust. This will be easier simply because its shorter and the conditions should be great. Last year the Firebirds had the best course markings of any race, lots and lots of arrows. Should be fun.

Thanks for the comments. The race should be relatively easy since we planned it to be in the lower elevations. There is possibly going to be some muddy spots or even patches of snow on the north slopes and drainages. Weather should be (mid 50's) perfect for racing. Hope to see you all there.

Any way to know if my entry has been received? Check hasn't cleared yet.

Re:Firebirds race 1 year, 10 months ago #94899

The last Buzzards race last year, just about killed me! I honestly thought it was harder than the the Cherry Creek National...BRUTAL!

I want to get out to this one, the distance is enticing, but I haven't ridden since August...so I'm sure I'll be equally beat by the end.

And the course markings at the last Buzzards race last year were awesome!

I have never been to Jericho before and Google maps is telling me it is about 2 hours and 15 minutes from Layton. Can someone confirm that? If everything goes as planned, I am going to leave early Saturday morning and I do not want to miss the 9:00 sign up deadline.

Go here:

motoutah.com/component/kunena/37-utah-de...web-pre-sign-up-open

and you can sleep in!!

The time will depend on how many Utah County White Mini-van's are stacked up talking on their cell phones accelerating an decelerating between 50 and 63 mph with occasion brake stomping for no apparent reason. 2 1/2 hours sounds about right!

I am not sure 100% that I am going to be able to make it, so I do not want to sign up yet. Do you know when the last day you can sign up via their website is? I looked on the website but could not find it.

Just sign up on the web, then you will make it to the race. That's what I just did.

I guess I missed the online sign up? I suppose I'll just need to sign up at the event.

Does anyone know if you can just follow behind all of the riders to see if anyone has wrecked, or has been having trouble with their bikes? Any info would be great.

Its public land and therefore open to the public, though I'm sure the club would not appreciate someone not participating in the race being out on the course. You could contact the race chairman however, and see if you could be a volunteer sweeper (doing exactly what you describe).

I'm sure the club would love another sweeper - just ask the chairman if you can help.

Does anyone have a phone number for the race chairman? Or an email address?

Just be at the finish line at the end of the big bike race. There will be a group of guys you can ride with. Please make sure your bike is in good running order as the sweepers will only have time to help racers. Thanks
