Well, I can't really help you with which school, but hurry up and go to one, then come back and stop by my garage...I'll have plenty for you to do...

Actually, I've never heard of YTI...but there others seem to be pretty good from what I've heard. But no personal experience.

York, PA???? Hmmm, sounds like a good reason NOT to go to that school...

I went to MMI Orlando and had a blast! If you already know alot about engines and motorcycles don't go waste your money. In my case I knew nothing and loved hitting the surf, or chasing those florida girls after a long day of examining carbs or cutting the wrong blue wire, then repairing it nicely. Hit me a message I will tell you all about it. All said and done I've been working in and around the motorcycle industry for 10 years thanks to MMI, but it is not for everyone....you will not be making 20 dollars an hour working on bikes, but if you ride and have friends that ride, you will save HUGE amounts of money in the long-term. Thanks for the info, I will hit you up yea I can rip my motor apart and fix it, but I figured maybe it would be worth going to school and getting the paper so I can get into the field..

I have a couple of friends that teach at MMI in Phoenix and in December I spent 2 weeks at wyo Tech in Daytona. Over the years I have been to both for update schools.
Both schools teach theory and offer good hands on exp. Things are changing fast in the MC industry. with Fuel injection and computers taking over, understanding the software and new diag procedures are a must and hard to learn under the shade tree. There is room in the industry for good techs that understand this stuff. My generation did not have basic computer skills from high school and learning for me has been a 2 part venture. HTML files heck give me my wrench!

The students at both of these schools seem to be a 50/50 split. One half of the parking lot is filled with nice pickups with new dirtbikes in the back or nice sportbikes.
These are the Kids that are going to motorcycle college and mom and dad are paying the bill.

The other half are wearing dew rags on there head and have the wallet with the chain but no bike!
These guys are going to harley school and look like they made a deal with the judge - School or jail !

The instructors are all pretty sharp and if you show them your there to learn its not hard to get there attention and do well

Most manufacturers require that the dealer have at least one tech certified in there brand to do warrenty work
so getting the paper is wort it.

Also for what its worth, I'm not rich, but I raised 2 kids and have never been without work!

Good Luck

Mr. D,

All I have to say is thank you for your insight lol.. Computer have always been my thing, however never done anything much with it. I truly look forward to learning anything any of these schools have to offer, that has been my biggest worry, is what if I go, and either can't find work, or get laid of, I am 25 married with three kids what would I do?

Any how thank you again for you insight.

Hey MX Utah, My name is Chris and I live in the Phoenix area. I run into students of MMI once in awhile at the local tracks. Most have told me it was a total waste of time (now remember that is their opinion). Others have said they learned a lot. I did notice however, the ones that thought it a waste of time had pretty good knowledge about bikes.
As Mr D said and I believe this to be true and that is, the piece of paper is sometimes worth more than the knowledge.
Now as for work, like anywhere else, it is tough to find a job. Not sure what back ground you might have, but work is a tuff thing to come by. As big as Phoenix is, it is still tough to find a job.
Just my thoughts, good luck.
