Last night I started to re-do the top end of my 2007 KTM 300xc. To remove the powervalve there are several small screws that are somewhat infamous for being problematic to get out. I've never had too much difficulty before (heating with a propane torch does wonders in breaking down loctite), but this time one of them stripped. No problem, I thought as I reached for a screw extractor. Unfortunately, the extractor broke in the hole I drilled in the screw. Oops, now what?

Today I took the cylinder down to Escape to see if they could do anything for me. One of the mechanics, Jeff, took it in the back and about 10 minutes later brought it back out with the screw removed. Another mechanic, Ian, then honed the cylinder while I waited and I walked out with my problem solved and ready to continue working on the top end. I was very impressed with the level of service, and going above and beyond to help a customer in a bind. Thanks, guys!

I called down there a few months ago to see what they would charge to hone out a cylinder. I was told that they wouldnt do it for anything under $45. I laughed and asked if he was joking. It takes all of 30 sec. to do it. They wouldnt budge. A brand new ball hone costs $30 with shipping. Needless to say I ordered the hone and did it myself. Something so simple could have made me feel alot better about them and they pissed it away.

Isn't that funny how, places charge so much for such little time, I think what is sad, is people will actually pay that, I bet they have paid for their hone a hundred times at least.

Where do you live lol I need my cylinder honed...

Since I dont get the traffic that Escape does, I would have to charge $400.

They charged me $10 for the hone, and nothing to take out the stripped screw. I would say they were more than fair in my case.

Working for myself, and often spending my time and giving information to people that will never end up resulting in income to me, I can see both sides to the story. It's fair to set a price for certain services, that will either be competitive or not.

BUT, when I have a good, repeat or faithful customer, there would always be a better deal offered. I'm not saying anyone here is this way, but there are people out there that feel that it is their right to be inconsiderate and rude in their quest to save a buck. I'm honestly as frugal as the next guy, but I also get satisfaction in paying fair prices for good service, and especially when I think it's helping out someone I like.

It's like the several times Lindsay machine will let me bring in my bike to help with stripped bolts/threads the day before leaving for a race. They charge a fair fee, but never over what is expected, and still go above and beyond. I always want to tell others about their great service.
Procycle is the same, and I also try to give what business I can now, because they have gone out of their way for me.
