The Knolls ORV park is located 80 miles west of downtown Salt Lake City, Utah on I-80, and 40 miles east of Wendover Nevada on I-80.The park is difficult to see from the road. Once at the Knolls exit, turn south then follow the road until you see a gravel road heading south. After crossing the railroad tracks, you can park almost anywhere. About 1.5 miles south is parking near the dunes.
This trail system is made up mostly of wide open desert with deep sand occasionally crossing trails. Surrounding the park are sand dunes, which are fun for beginner to advanced riders. Plan on bringing plenty of gas, water and food since the nearest town is 30 miles away.

Great place to ride

Knolls is my favorite place to ride in the dunes and on the flats there is so much riding out there to find if you just keep going until you hit the fence.

Great get away

I was pleasantly surprised when I went to Knolls for the first time. At the time we went, snow and rain where hitting all over Utah and we weren't sure of the conditions out there. When we arrived it was an amazing day. Not a cloud in the sky, sunny and warm. The rain a couple of nights before had firmed up the sand slightly and kept the dust to nonexistent. The dunes where so much fun with plenty of jumps and burns to keep it interesting. There were double tracks through the rocks that were fun with a lot of hill climbs from easy to dang hard. The long desert tracks were great to go fast with whoops to practice on. I think in the spring and fall Knolls is a great place to take the family, ride, camp and have a good time. The weather is perfect when it's too cold in the mountains and the area is big enough to explore for the weekend. I'm definitely going to make it a regular stop.

Fun open play area

If you want to go to a desert area to ride or camp and don't want to travel incredibly far you could consider The Knolls OHV area. My family really enjoys going out the early in the morning and setting up some shade tents and just playing around for the day and then packing up when it gets too hot we get too tired and we go home. There is sand, some small mtns, and large hard flat areas. There is something for everyone. My nieces and nephews like to take thier 90cc four wheelers and play and we all enjoy taking some small and long rides together through the sands and trails. Not much to look at so be sure you are with people you like because they are what you will be looking at. This is a good all around family site to play together if your family has different skill levels. If you want to go fast, take your friends and find a jump or hill to climb and go at it. Take water and food because there isn't anything out there. There is a bathroom at the entrance but other than that just water a sagebrush.
