Sovereign Trail System updates for 2008
It's Clif again. Ride with Respect just completed a trail expansion to create looping opportunities. Pickup a new RwR map, and please note the suggested travel directions. Rugged terrain forced our nonprofit to construct several rather steep sections, which will only sustain if ridden downward. Expert riders who are very smooth on the throttle may go up some of the steep stuff. However, the northern end of Saltwash Singletrack is down only, as the signs indicate. Better to have a one-way trail than a closed trail, in my book. All in all, Sovereign now offers twenty miles of singletrack, three miles of ATV trail, and about twenty miles of marked doubletracks for all to enjoy responsibly.

My name is Clif Koontz. Through Ride with Respect, I helped Dale Parriott create the Sovereign Trail System. It includes the Sovereign Singletrack for two-wheelers and Sovereign ATV Loop for four-wheelers. The singletrack is pretty technical, while the ATV Loop is less so.
You can stage from several places roughly ten miles north of Moab. The Archview Camp Park is available so long as you don't go Evel Knievel in the parking lot. Northward along 191 you'll find Willow Spring Road, Dalton Well Road, and eventually Klondike Bluffs.
You can pick up a Sovereign map at local OHV or bicycle shops. Proceeds of Ride with Respect's map go back into trail maintenance. As a nonprofit, we rely heavily on volunteerism and personal donations. You can help by visiting www.RideWithRespect.org.
But even more important than donating time or money, please Tread Lightly! In the desert that means staying precisely on the route, on slickrock, or in a sandy wash, while avoiding crypto (black craggy soil). Make allies out of people you encounter by slowing down, minimizing dust, and quieting your engine.
So long as the singletrack stays single, riders are considerate, and we stay involved with land management, recreationists of all flavors ought to be able to enjoy this area for years to come. Thanks for being a part of the trail-access solution!
